I'm curious to know why others are drawn to things made from linen, especially linen sheets as they are the most tactile way of experiencing linen. There seems to be two camps: Those who, without question, want linen sheets, linen napkins, linen towels, etc. and need only to decide on colors, styles, and their budget. Then there are others, perhaps less knowledgeable or particular about fabrics, who never thought of sleeping on linen sheets and probably need to try it before they will commit.
To me, linen feels supremely natural, like spreading out on cool dry grass in the summer to watch the clouds roll by. Spreading freshly laundered linen sheets out on the bed is like laying down an oasis of goodness from the earth. I love sleeping on linen sheets because they always feel cool and dry. The weight and tensile flutter of the linen has a substantial feeling of quality.
Today I received a message from a woman interested in linen sheets. She was interested in rougher, heavier feeling linen. She said the rough heavy linen reminds her of family heirlooms and things passed down from one generation to the next. She specifically didn't want the linen to be too soft. From my experience, all linen becomes soft with time and additional washing, nonetheless, her request got me thinking about why others enjoy linen. Please feel free to leave a message and join the conversation.

Hi Jason,
I like *your* linen sheets because the fabric is delicious, the sewing is beautiful, the customer service is outstanding, and the price is very reasonable.
I like linen sheets in general because they feel cool and have a nice drape.
Best regards,
Leila
I had read so much about linen sheets being cooler in the summer to sleep on that I decided to experiment a bit and ordered a high quality Irish linen pillow case to see for myself. When the pillowcase arrived I was surprised to find the linen was heavy, and slightly rough, and didn't feel I would be comfortable sleeping on something so heavy in the heat of the summer. A few months later I was in a linen store and came across samples of Sferra Italian Classico linen sheets and was amazed at the difference. The beauty of the Italian linen left one almost speechless, and I purchased their sheets in king size. This summer I checked around to see what else was available at a lower cost, and didn't find much, except the origin of linen varies, and a smart shopper would do well to ask questions. Usually if it states the fabric is "imported" it would be wise to ask from where - anytime it's Italian or Belgium linen its stated as these countries are known for their quality linen.
As an example, while Williams Sonoma is offering to monogram your linens, and prices are somewhat cheaper than the others, their linen comes from China. I've had cotton sheets, etc. from China and always found their quality is poor, so I wouldn't recommend buying any sheeting from China.
Garnet Hill, another quality online store is also offering linen in colors from China.
Cuddledown is having a sale ((7/28/09) on their Italian linen and will allow you to wash it and see how you like it. If you don't, it has to be returned within 30 days of purchase date. I just purchased two standard pillow cases on sale for $34 each and their king flat sheet with 3 rows of hemstitching in their flax color - cost $289 including shipping - one sheet and two pillow cases. They've just been washed and will see how they "iron up".
Most of the linen prices listed on this blog are very similar in price to Sferra Classico linen sheets, which are beautiful and well worth the price. King sheets are $316 and pair of standard cases (which I use with my King sheets) are $158.
I lke your linen sheets because they feel cooler than my cotton sheets and feel softer also. I can't wait to get in bed at night.
They are worth every penny.
Healthy sleeping. My body prefers linen. Nothing sticks to me
Linen sheets sooth my mind.
I enjoy the aesthetics.
